I’m a big supporter of people who want to travel alone, and discover themselves while they discover the world. However, I know that travelling alone can be really scary. I’ve only done it a few times myself, and I’ve never really done it to a serious extent – you know, like backpacking around South East Asia. Although I’d like to one day! Still, these tips will help to make travelling alone much less scary for you.
Go With An Airline You Trust
There are so many different airlines out there, so it’s a good idea to go with an airline that you trust. You can do some research if you like, to confirm that you’re going with the right airline. You’ll feel better if you travel with a company you’ve travelled with before. You may also want to check out how comfortable the seating arrangements are.
Go Somewhere You’ve Always Wanted To Go
When you choose to go somewhere you’ve always wanted to go, you’ll be excited more than anything! Allow yourself to get excited. Think of all of the amazing things you’ll see and do. You might still feel a little apprehensive, but that should soon melt away.
Take Music And Reading Material
Taking music and reading material with you will keep you occupied if there are any delays. Not only that, they can distract you if you’re not too keen on flying. I’d like to guarantee that they’ll keep strangers from speaking to you when you don’t feel like talking too, but this isn’t always the case. Some people just like to talk!
Have Ways To Stay In Touch With Your Loved Ones
Always have ways to stay in touch with the people you love. You may want to check with your phone provider to see what they can offer you. It might be an even better idea to get a cheap phone and sim, or even a phone box card. There should also be internet cafes around where you can use Skype!
Create A Rough Plan In Advance
By creating a rough plan in advance, you’ll have an idea of what you’re going to do when you arrive at your destination. Don’t limit yourself by making it a strict plan, though. You want to be able to have freedom and flexibility if you need it. Don’t get too caught up in making a perfect plan, as this can really stress you out. That being said, you may want to book certain things in advance so that you know you have a place. Escorted wildlife tours and similar packages might all book up if you don’t book in advance. Keep the rest rough and just go with the flow.
Leave Valuable Things At Home
Rather than taking your prized possessions with you, leave them at home. Travelling alone can be scary enough without losing a suitcase full of valuable things, or having things lost/stolen. If you can help it, pack light and leave valuables at home.
Hope these tips help you to have the time of your life!
