What You Need to Do to be Healthy for Life

Getting healthy isn’t just something you do before a holiday and then stop when the fun is over. Many people think of it as a short term solution, whether it’s weight loss or muscle gain they want to pursue. If you want to look and feel great, it’s an ongoing thing. If you want to be healthy well into the future, here’s what you need to do:

Eat a Diet You Find Sustainable

The food you eat will have a lot to do with how healthy you are. Many people think that to be healthy they need to only eat salads, but this isn’t true at all. You can find many delicious foods that are still healthy. There are so many fruits, vegetables, nuts, and things like that you can fill your diet with. They will fill you up and offer many other health benefits too. If you cut out too much, you’ll be tempted to binge and rebound. You should be able to see yourself eating this way for life to work out whether it’s sustainable or not.

Drink Lots of Water

Water is the key to staying hydrated, as well as flushing out toxins and staying healthy in general. You should aim for at least 2 litres of water a day, up to 4 if you’re exercising. You can have other things, like green tea, matcha tea, and coffee too. Just try to avoid creamy, milky, sugary drinks. They should be consumed as treats. Even fruit juice should be considered a treat as it’s full of sugar.

Don’t Tip the Balance

To be healthy for life, of course you need to have some treats here and there. Just make sure you aren’t tipping the balance. You should be healthy around 80% of the time, with treats 20%. If you start kidding yourself with how many treats you’re actually having, you may gain weight and develop health problems.

Find Exercise You Really Like

You must exercise if you want to be healthy. Getting exercise doesn’t mean doing gruelling bootcamp sessions 5 times a week, unless that’s what you really want to do. Find something you like, and aim to get better at it over time to stay interested. Maybe it’s swimming, improving your walking pace, or something similar. Switch things up every so often so you don’t get bored.

Build a Strong Support Network

Having a strong support network will help you during tough times in life. Make sure you stay in touch with your family and friends, and aim to help them when they need you. This will mean you have a strong support network by your side for life. You need to think about the future too. Getting old isn’t pleasant, but it’s something everyone must do.
