If you want to get a more defined physique, then it means only having to lift weights at the gym, right? This common misconception could be the thing that puts many people off wanting to get a more muscular and firm body. Although I love to lift weights and would encourage anyone to do so, even I can admit that there are other ways to get the body that you want, alongside having a routine with weights. Lifting weights can get you results, there is no getting away from it. But there are plenty of other things that you should be doing as well, to help you build strength and get the body that you want. Intrigued? Here are a suggestions for you; do you think you’ll give any of them a go?
Think About What You’re Eating
A lot of the time we think that if we exercise, then it doesn’t matter what we eat. But if we want to see change, then we have to be wary of what we are eating. A diet high in protein is going to be a good way to see changes in your body. Avoid refined sugars and any processed foods. You should also think about eating little and often, rather than the three meals a day (or less) kind of attitude. You still need to get the right amount of calories in your body. Simply not eating isn’t going to be the best way to get the body you want.
Interval training is often overlooked, but it is a great way to burn fat and calories. The more body fat you burn, the muscle you will have to help your body look better and be stronger. You can do interval training in many ways. It could be intervals out running, on a rowing machine, or even with kettlebells if that is your thing. It is all about the high bursts of training and then slowing down before going again.
Yoga is often considered a more relaxing class than others, as a way to stretch and unwind. While it is all of those things, yoga classes to tone up your body is a great thing to try. How many yoga instructors have you seen that aren’t lean with a sculpted body? You will do lots of body weight exercises and train your body to be stronger. So if you’ve not tried it before, it can be worth a go. Not all instructors are the same, though. You should try a few classes to find one that is right for you.
Multi-Task Your Muscles
When you exercise, it is a good idea to do a couple of different things at a time, to maximise calorie burning. Take a push-up, for example. When done with a leg lift, you’re pushing your body further. Same goes for squats with a lateral raise or calf raise, for instance. You’ll burn more calories and also get your workout done quicker. What’s not to love?
