Follow These Five Steps To Look Your Best This Winter

The cold, harsh weather in winter can take its toll on your looks – dry and pale skin, limp hair, and a few extra pounds are pretty common, but it doesn’t have to be the case! Trying to follow your summer beauty regime in winter, logically doesn’t work. It’s all about adapting to the season, and giving your body what it needs. If you do these five things this winter your body will thank you for it, trust us.

  1. Be careful what you put in your body

In the cold weather, we crave carbs and fatty foods to keep us warm and comfort us, but it isn’t what we should do to our bodies. Try to maintain a healthy diet all year round, despite what your cravings are telling you. If you eat well and stay hydrated, your skin will look fresh, bright, and plump, and you’ll feel better about yourself than if you snack on junk food instead.

  1. Wear layers

Follow the same fashion advice that you follow all year round and wear layers. In cold weather, it can be easier to throw on a big coat, hat, and scarf, without thinking about how your outfit coordinates. If you use layers, consider your choice of patterns, colours, and fabrics, and invest in a few statement pieces of jewellery or knitwear, you’ll always look stylish and well put together, even when it’s well below freezing outside.

  1. Love your skin

Drinking enough water is only the tip of the iceberg for skincare, especially in winter. The cold air, coupled with the dry central heating inside, can play havoc with your skin. Dry patches and oily patches and everything in between are a constant battle, so make sure you’re armed. Choose a good exfoliator, a light day moisturiser, and an intensive repair oil for night-time, and you’ll see the difference in no time.

  1. Work out

Just because the weather is cold, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t continue with your workout regime. It’s actually proven that exercising outside in cold weather burns more calories than warm weather, as you need to burn extra calories just to keep warm. And you can always work out inside, with a rowing machine or dumbbells in your home. If you’re interested in getting your own home gym, click here to check the best rowing machine list.

  1. Care for your hair

Absolutely under no circumstances ever go outside with wet hair in the cold weather. Not only will you probably end up with a cold, but also, that’s how you end up with brittle, straw-like hair that no amount of intensive moisturising can ever help rectify. For winter haircare, use a shampoo and moisturising conditioner twice a week, but try not to wash it more often. The natural oils in your hair and scalp are great at protecting it from the cold, so you don’t want to keep washing them away.

Looking your best in winter isn’t about spending extra time or money on your beauty regime, but just about adapting it to be more suitable for the colder weather.
