I’d like to imagine that most people would like to make a difference to the world. I know I want to! It can be hard to think of things to do this, so I thought I’d give you a few ideas:
Pursue a Meaningful Career
There are some jobs that really help you to make a difference to people’s lives. Most jobs don’t, but if you’re looking for a career change, you should consider trying something brand new and meaningful. It could be the best decision you ever make. Some careers that help people include law careers and medical careers. This puts you on the front line fighting for ordinary people. These jobs are not easy to get into; the best ones never are. So, if you want to do something like this, you will have to study for years before you are able to make a real difference. But it might be more than worth it in the long-term!
Help Improve Your Community Cohesion
Improving the world does not have to mean doing something huge that changes the way the world works. Doing your bit to make the world a better place to live can happen on a small scale as well. It’s something that can even happen within your own community. Why not do something to improve the cohesion of your community? You could do something to improve the way older people live their lives in your community. If there are old people who don’t manage to get out much, you could set up a community organisation that allows everyone to get together. Things like this might seem small to you, but they can be huge for other people. You could become a local hero!
Support Vulnerable Animals
Nowadays, the threat to animals seems greater than ever before. There are so many factors, from such as deforestation, that are putting different species at risk of extinction. I like to think I do my bit by being a vegetarian, although some would argue that I should go full vegan. If you want to help the animals, why not get stuck in and become a volunteer? There are projects that allow you to help the Bornean orangutan, for example. If you decide to do this, you will be looking after them in their environment and making sure they get the best chance possible to thrive. You don’t even have to do anything as drastic as that though. Adopting an abandoned pet is also a great way of helping a vulnerable animal. You could even try out one meat free day a week!
Become More Environmentally Friendly
One of the biggest issues of our time is the damage being done to the environment. In the spirit of the recent Paris climate summit, why not do a bit more to help the environment? Of course, the big polluters are not individuals but massive companies. But that doesn’t mean you can’t do your bit and improve your own personal habits. If you drive your car everywhere you go, why not walk or cycle a little more often? Even doing things like taking public transport can massively reduce your own carbon footprint. You should also do more to recycle the waste you create. If you do this, you’ll find that there isn’t much that you can’t recycle. One of my pet hates is people who don’t recycle properly!
Do your best day to day and you’ll make a huge difference, even if it doesn’t feel like it!
